My Comments
This has been a standing favorite for years with
my students. It is easy enough for many readers, but the theme of good versus
evil may be interpreted on different levels, thus extending the
recommended reading level of this story and providing excellent discussion
questions for classroom reading. For example, the consequences of standing up
to evil are often fatal, and a malevolent leader may not want the owls - the
people - to think for themselves.
This is a pretty solid winner for most middle
school students.
